The Ngorongoro volcano at its nadir was perhaps about 15 000 feet high and would have looked like present day Mount Meru. At one time the world’s highest structure, a huge volcano – probably 25 miles wide at its bottom – collapsed inwards approximately 2-3 million years ago at the time when large fractures surfaced creating the Eastern Rift wall.

These days, the crater is residence to over 20 000 large mammals. Its wealthy grassland caldera is an animal paradise. View some of the world’s largest Elephant, large groups of black-maned Lion, big herds of plains animals like Zebra and Wildebeest. The crater area is the last place in Africa where free-ranging Black Rhino are regularly seen by all visitors.

There is no other exciting or spectacular wildlife spectacle on earth. Throughout these 3 nights you’ll be cared for in a Luxury Camp position near the migration but hours and days away from the major tourist lodges. In most cases, the whole veldt will be yours alone. Your guide will also escort you to sacred Maasai areas, where he will give you more information about the drama and mystery of Maasai history and culture.
