Tanzania and Kenya Wildlife Rangers to raise awareness and Funds for Critical Conservation projects

By June 10, 2014Uncategorized

Wildlife rangers have organized a campaign which will run between Arusha and Nairobi with the intention of raising awareness about all the challenges faced by wildlife rangers in both Tanzania and Kenya. Raabia Hawa, founder of the ‘Walk with Rangers’ initiative said that the wildlife is officially on the edge of extinction and so can not afford to allow this scale of slaughter to that is why they will be working together to complete an arduous 350 kilometre walk from Tanzania to Kenya to raise awareness and funds for critical conservation projects in the two host countries.

The campaign has been supported by the relevant governments and authorities. The walk will be flagged off by Tanzanian officials and will be supported through its tenure by the Big Life Foundation, Honey guide Foundation, Wildlife Works, Tanzania National Parks and the Kenya Wildlife Service.

This walk with Rangers will also see local Tanzanians and Kenyans work together with concerned citizens from around the world like the United States, Britain, Italy, South Africa, Australia and Algeria engage in a unique experience on the ground. This is a two-week trek, organized by Walk with Rangers and Big Life Foundation will begin on June 12 in Arusha and is set to finish with a symbolic walk in Nairobi, Kenya on June 28.

Hawa said that if they can’t do this then they will have failed to protect our natural inheritance for generations to come and robbed it of vital resources leaving a blank future devoid of natural splendor.

Illegal trade in wildlife has increased over the past five to seven years and has greatly affected international security, stability, governance and biodiversity. So this walk is not only intended to raise awareness of the challenges faced by wildlife rangers, but also as a fundraising initiative to support these teams, by establishing a critical project in each one of the two countries so said Hawa.
