Machakos government will be gazetting 8 more parks

By May 30, 2014Uncategorized

In an effort to improve on the tourism business and the revenue of Machakos County, its government has decided to put up eight more  recreational parks so said the Machakos parks manager Kioko Musembi and this will be done within two years, by that time all eight sub counties will have a park.

He said that entry will be free and the parks will be built to international standards. At the moment, they are setting up another park in Tala following the huge success of the Machakos town facility. He said so while addressing the press at the Machakos People’s Park after attending a security meeting ahead of an event to be held there this weekend. Musembi said the park will host more than 10,000 at the ‘World Cup Carnival’ on Saturday and this will be the biggest event ever hosted by the county.

According to him, the park has been a big success and is booked almost all weekends for concerts, weddings, corporate functions, video shoots or team building activities. He also said that contrary to belief that the park was a burden to the county government, the facility rings I a lot of revenue from hiring fees, boat rides and rent from tenants at the facility.

Security is tight and there is 24 hours CCTV surveillance, a police post and guard dogs at night, which makes it probably the most secure park in the country thus the reason it attracts hundreds of visitors every weekend. This is the only park with an amphitheater, miniature golf course, children’s play area, boat rides, restaurants, a bar and V.I.P area on a 40 acre spread.

It was opened by Governor Alfred Mutua in March and he said more parks would be built in the county and this will in the long run encourage domestic tourism.
