Where to Enjoy a Boat Ride Safari in Uganda

These are conducted on the large water bodies in the country including Lake George, Lake Edward, Lake Victoria, Lake Kyoga, and River Nile among others.  Through your tour agent or company you can easily access these destinations from Uganda, or rent a car during your self-drive safari.

You may either book in advance your boat ride safari through your tour operator or simply payat the starting point on the day of the boat ride. One thing you should always have at the back of your mind is that the water bodies in Uganda are very safe considering that they are patrolled by the marine police together with the tourism police every now and again.

Below we have summarized the different Boat Ride Safaris in Uganda and where they are conducted:

Boat Ride Safaris on Lake Victoria

This is the largest lake in Uganda and it s here that majority of the boat rides are conducted. Because of the numerous islands found on this lake, you will be able to enjoy rides to different islands including Ngamba Island the home of orphaned chimpanzees, Ssese island ideal for bird watching romantic getaways, Maboo island, Migingo Island, Bugala Island among many other.

Boat Rides on Lake Mutanda

This Crater Lake was formed due to volcanic activity.  It is located on the higher terrain in Kisoro District.  The boat rides on this lake are done in the morning and afternoon basing on the weather. There are a number of islands you can visit on this lake including Punishment Island where pregnant girls were deserted and left to stave for death as a form of punishment of getting pregnant before marriage.

Boat Cruise on the Kazinga Channel

The Kazinga channel which is a natural water channel that connects Lake George and Edward, part of it is found within the renowned Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is among the best places to see a number of exotic bird species that visit Uganda. During the cruise you will see large schools of hippos together with several giant crocodiles. So this can be an additional activity to the game drives in the park

Boat Rides on Lake Bunyonyi

Located within Kibale District, this is among Uganda’s most beautiful lakes. It offers breathtaking views and is a great place for bird watching.

Boat Cruise on the Murchison Falls

Located within Murchison Falls National park in northern Uganda, these powerful falls are located on River Nile the longest River in the world. They are conducted both in the morning and afternoon and you will have an opportunity to see the large schools of hippos, different birds, and giant crocodiles plus some few animals that come to the river banks to drink water.

Boat Ride at the Source of River Nile

He River Nile is the longest river in the world and its source is found here in Uganda within Jinja (discovered by John Speke an early explorer). During your visit there, you can enjoy a boat ride and see different birds and the breathtaking scenery

Found within Teso Region, the beautiful Lake Kyoga is a great destination to enjoy a cruise. You can also enjoy fishing, the breathtaking views and canoe rides here.
