By August 17, 2016Uganda

Chimpanzee-tracking-Kibale-UgandaSimilar to Mountain Gorillas, generally chimpanzees are listed among the endangered species in the world and there are about 150,000 chimpanzees only surviving in the world. Here in Uganda Chimpanzees can best be seen during the Chimpanzee Tracking Safaris. It has been scientifically proven that chimpanzees share 98.7% of their DNA with man and they are the closest living relative to people.

When we turn our focus on chimpanzees living in their natural habitat – the wild, it has been discovered that they live in groups comprising of 15 to 120 members. They communicate to each other through vocalization, facial expressions, different body postures as well as gestures just as people do.

Statistics show that Uganda has the largest number of chimpanzees on the planet and these can best be seen in the different habitats including: Kibale forest National Park, Budongo forest, Ngamba Island Chimp Sanctuary, Kyambura Gorge found in Queen Elizabeth national park as well as Toro-Semliki Wildlife Reserve.

Fortunately during your safari in Uganda you will have a chance to take part in either chimpanzee trekking or the full day chimpanzee habituation experience

The temperate climate of Uganda offers good and favorable conditions for visitors on a Uganda Safari to easily track and see the chimpanzees in their natural habitat; offering a very enjoyable wildlife encounter. The good news is, chimps in Uganda can be tracked all year round irrespective of whether it a dry season or a wet season.

As you track chimpanzees in Uganda, you will be lead by well experienced park rangers who will lead you to where they are. During your forest search for them, these rangers will try to communicate with the chimps so as to locate where exactly they are by mimicking their different calls. When you meet them, you will be stunned by how these playful creatures react to the different calls while in their natural habitat.

The renowned Kyambura Gorge found in the southern Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to the so called lost chimpanzees living in the underground forest. This gorge has 25 different habituated chimpanzee families which can be tracked by visitors during their safaris in Uganda.
