The beautiful falls are located just 20 miles from the capital city along the Kampala-Jinja highway. This site preserves a historical African culture and for a long time has been place where cultural rituals are carried out by traditional believers.

The eye-catching natural splendor of the Sezibwa Falls has made this site a very well-liked destination for those interested in nature adventures and cultural experiences. The Beautiful Sezibwa Falls

The scenery at the Sezibwa Falls is very incredible! The calm river comes forth from the surrounding thickets, and then stumbles over several sharp rocks before plunging below over a 7 meter height to form a whirlpool which calmly continues flowing downstream. This is a breathtaking and very memorable sight! The thundering sound of the water slamming over the rocks together with the cool breeze that blows on your face as you watch the beautiful falls on an adjacent bridge just a couple of meters away is very rewarding and refreshing.

Nature walks around Sezibwa Falls

Around the waterfalls are a number of walking trails along which you will have an opportunity to explore the surrounding area, enjoy the beautiful scenery and see some wildlife. The large eucalyptus trees, thickets and bamboos as well as the forest close by are home to various types of birds, monkeys and butterflies and some monkeys. You may also see Otters plus tadpoles in the shallows of the river whereas mongoose plus wild cats also live within this area but are hardly seen. During hot days snakes including the cobras and green mambas are common seen in this area. The surrounding area comprises of local farms, plantations of sugarcane and tea as well as grasslands covering the encompassing hills.

During the nature walks you will see various types of trees and a couple of plants used for medicinal purposes by the locals such as the wild olive-tree used to treat sore throat. This tree is supposed to have been planted by a former king of Buganda Kabaka Mwanga.

Rock climbing

There are large sharp rocks that extend from the waterfall and form a cliff. However, these rocks are challenging to climb although once you reach the top you will be rewarded with breathtaking views seeing the surrounding area from an elevated angle. You will be able to see some lizards and small snakes playing on the rocks.

Experienced swimmers may choose to plunge into the whirlpool.

Cultural Experience

The Sezibwa Falls is a Heritage Site belonging to the Buganda Kingdom and preserves a crucial old culture that today is very rare especially after the introduction of foreign religion. When you Visit the local shrines you will learn about the intriguing traditional religion practiced by some of the Baganda people as well as the historical spirits which are considered to have formed the Sezibwa Falls. Some of the traditional items you will see in the shrines that are used during traditional worship including: pots, coffee beans, calabashes, spears, bark cloth and cowrie shells which were used by early ancestors. The Spirits are linked to the forefathers therefore traditionalists have faith that through using these historical items they can connect with the spirits or gods.

Bird Watching

There are approximately 150 types of birds living around the Sezibwa area which you will be able to see and these include:  the Olive sunbird, Cormorants, Woodland Kingfishers, Parrots, White-throated Bee-eater, Little Green Sunbird, Red-eyed Dove, White-chested Nigro Finch, Green-headed Sunbird, Great Blue Turaco, Lesser-stripped Swallows and the Black-and-white Mankins

Camping at the Sezibwa Falls

There is a spacious tidy Camping Ground just a couple of meters from the waterfalls. You may choose to spend your night out of the noisy towns at this quite and beautiful cultural heritage site.
