Ugandan Government to Promote Local Tourism within Busoga Region

bulambule-busoga-tourism-exploration-campaignMr. Godfrey Kiwanda Uganda’s State-Minister for Tourism, Wild life & Antiquities, has unveiled a tourism exploration marketing campaign together with Busoga Kingdom as well as the Uganda Tourism Board to promote potential tourism-sites plus tourism activities within the sub-region.

This 2 day event which was recent held in the town of Jinja under a theme ‘Bulambule Busoga’ which means ‘touring Busoga’, is meant to boost domestic tourism within the different districts of Jinja, Buyende as well Mayuge among other neighboring areas.

The minister in his address stated that that the sub-region has everything it needs to draw in tourists into the region adding that is better to get into a partnership with a number of good investors within the sector so that the local community and the country can all benefit from this. He added that more efforts should be put in place to see that they develop these places to ensure that they attract more visitors and in the long run earn more revenue.

During this event, the state minister was accompanies by members on the Tourism Parliamentary Committee and they visited a number of sites including the Itanda falls, Masese Landing Site, Bujagali, River Nile and Lake Victoria.

The honorable minister advised the management team in charge of the landing site to focus on and uphold good hygiene in order to avoid cases of people contracting poor hygiene related diseases and also to ensure that the site continues to draw in tourists.

Hellen Namutamba who is the Tourism minister in Busoga Kingdom, and headed the 2 days event, mentioned that the primary intention of ‘Bulambule Busoga’ is to build awareness especially among the different local communities of the various tourism opportunities available around them which can improve their livelihood.

Something worth noting is that the tourism sector is one of the biggest contributors to Uganda’s economy and offers a very big percentage of job opportunities to the people.
