By February 22, 2013Tanzanian tourism news

The local people from the Serengeti District situated in the Mara Region are troubled by the poor roads in their region and yet it has the largest part the popular Serengeti National Park which attracts thousands of tourists. Serengeti National Park is among Tanzania’s major tourist destinations.

According to Johanas Matiko (50) who is a resident of Serengeti, the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) the construction of tarmac highway running from Makutano Juu in Musoma to Mugumu town is expected to start any time soon. Mugumu town is the headquarters of Serengeti District and the entire town has been going without network of tarmac road for so many years now.

Hopefully, the roads will be improved as stated in the report because this will also be very helpful to the small peasant farmers as it will reduce on the transport costs that Serengeti people have been spending when traveling to neighboring towns of the lake zone regions like the Musoma and Bunda. There are some vehicles that commute but usually they charge heavily because the road is so dusty and so bad.

Information from TANROADS reveals that the road will be constructed phase by phase and after the discussions with the contractor, then the work will start immediately so said Engineer Emmanuel Korosso who is Mara Regional TANROADS Manager as he was addressing the  ‘Daily News’ at the beginning of February . Working on the roads will surely attract more tourists to visit Serengeti as it is know for it wonderful wildlife and nature.
