Tourism image under threat.

The Kenyan tourism stakeholders as well as those in the entertainment industry are expressed their worry about the consequences that Kenya might have to face resulting from the on going harmful information that is produced by the international media group about Kenya but on particular Mombasa letting the public know about the  grenade attacks. They mentioned 3 people being killed while many were severally in grenade attacks in Mtwapa, Buxton and Moi Avenue in Mombasa Kenya.

The Kenya Association of Hotel keepers together with the Caterers and the Mombasa, Coast Tourists Association have blamed the international media for being so irresponsible a gave wrong information about the incidents in Kenya and yet this might greatly affect the tourism industry once tourists start getting scared of visiting Kenya as they try to protect their lives . They stressed the point that they are attacks are not are not particularly made to hurt tourists or people in the entertainment industries.

Mr. Sam Ikwaye the executive officer KAHC mentioned while addressing the Star that the international media is unjustly ruining Kenya’s image on the international scene, it is not the tourism industry that is under attack like the international media makes to appear but rather the ordinary Kenyans.  It is very important that the international media does not report misinterpreted incidents in the country therefore should first confirm from the responsible bodies so said Sam Ikwaye.

Mohammed Hersi the chair person MCTA also added that at the moment  Mombasa is very calm and wet but  all the residents should stay  alert incase anything happens. Hersi condemns the international media of being quick to report the attacks before they could get the real story and just aired on BBC TV. BBC has shown Kenya in a state of Violence and this portrays Kenya as one of the most unstable country around the?  Much as it is true that there was an attack in Mombasa, it is not true that there was violence involved in this attack therefore it was correct for the international media to report violence in Mombasa which might jeopardize to tourism business.

Ikwaye mentioned that these attacks were targeting a church, a bus park, a crusade and an entertainment spot however; this does not mean that the hospitality industry is under attack but the tourism sector will be affected as collateral damage but not as the target. So he emphasized.
