The Laikipia Wilderness | Kenya Safari

By April 7, 2016Kenya safaris

Laikipia-elephantsLaikipia that means ‘treeless plain’ in the local Maasai language is a huge plain having different wildlife that freely roams on its rangelands

This is a huge plateau comprised of tribal lands as well as private conservancies; the Laikipia is among the few areas on the African continent with a recorded constantly increasing number of wildlife. Situated on the equator within the Rift Valley Province the majority of the land here is privately owned.

A number of good partnerships have been made between the resident local communities and the private land owners, so this area is actually on Kenya’s tourism map.  the area is home to several different wild animals among which are Africa’s Big 5, in addition to a large number of elephants, Black Rhinos, African wild dogs and zebras among others.

This unique wildlife wilderness offers several accommodation options where visitors can spend the night and these include: Ol Pejeta Bush Camp and Lewa Safari Camp
