The Buganda Kingdom Coronation Site Naggalabi Budo

The Naggalabi-Budo Coronation site an amazing place worth visiting on you Safari in Uganda was established back in the 14th Century and since then it has served as the place where Kings in the Buganda kingdom are crowned.

For the last 700 years and so, this Buganda kingdom coronation site obtained its present status after Bemba Musota was killed by Kintu after which he proclaimed himself as the King of Buganda. It is the only coronation site in the country and the current king of Buganda Kingdome Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II was likewise crowned here in 1993 on 31st July and thousands and thousands of people both local and foreign guests attended that memorable event.

The Naggalabi Budo Coronation Site is situated within Busiro County in Buganda and is located along the Kampala – Masaka Road. It is approximately 11km  from Kampala City center driving through the vibrant Kyengera center, then turning off from the main road at Nakasozi and drive the another 2km along a murram road to the site. Close to the site is one of Uganda’s most prestigious schools – Kings College Buddo secondary school.

The Coronation Site offers visitors on a Uganda Cultural Safari and opportunity to enjoy the rich traditional experience that involves exploring the coronation ground, see the anti-hill that is supposed to be the point where Bemba fell following him being speared by Kintu, see the Buganda house in which the King stays for 3 days before the date of his coronation, see other traditional houses that have a great significance towards the king’s  coronation plus the old tree which was used several years as a traditional court during the era of pre-colonial Buganda.
