Tanzania welcomes China as its new grand market

By April 2, 2013Tanzanian tourism news

Tanzania together with the Chinese government are looking forward to a great business relationship that will help boost tourists in both China and Tanzania. According to the records, China produces about 90 million overseas tourists every year but almost none of them are coming to tour Tanzania’s natural beauty and yet some attractions are on the list of Africa’s nature wonder like the Mt. Kilimanjaro and others. According to Lu Youqing who is the China Ambassador to Tanzania, China has already planned the way forward by coming up with different ways of putting their desires into action and they are working together with the minister for tourism and natural resources.

Nr. Lu said that the currently target is to get just about 1% of the total number of Chinese tourists per year to Tanzania and this will twice increase the amount of  revenue collection and tourist arrivals in Tanzania which will do goo the economy of the country.  He added that if they are able to tap the1 % as planned, then that means that they will be receiving about 900,000 tourists will be coming from China alone every year. This figure is actually above the number of tourists who visited the country last years as they were about 850,000 tourists collecting an amount of 1.37 billion US dollars as revenue by the end of the year.

The Ambassador was also confident that the talks between him and the ministry will yield fruits and bring the targeted figure.  This was during his speech at the launch of the CRDB bank’s China Desk where he expressed hopefulness for a bright future for this co-operation between Tanzania and China aimed at improving the tourism industry.

Tanzania has got to work hard towards ensuring full exploitation of its revenue especially since a large chunk of its land of over 44 % is covered with game reserves and national parks. Tanzania has got about 16 national parks, 29 game reserves, 40 controlled conservation areas and marine parks and all these are tourists’ destinations
