ONLY 32% OF THE HOTELS IN TANZANIA GRADED FOR CLASS

Only 32%of the hotels in Tanzania were ranked and awarded suitable stars under the approved standard of East African Community (EAC) at a rate of Tsh 200 million (US$ 133,330) which means only 66 out of 203 were graded .These hotels included those in Dar-es salaam, coastal regions and the 68% ungraded were from other 19 regions which would be ranked next time by the hotel’s expert consultative committee.

Ms Shamsa Mwangunga the minister for Natural Resources and Tourism said during this launch that her ministry had been on the front position in improving the country’s tourism sector and they have been struggling to support the tourism services so that they could offer good standards and quality.

Presently, the tourism sector in Tanzania contributes about 17.2% of the gross profit and the minister said the country has been promoted through advertising and through the current assessing of the standards of hotels.
