New ferry for Kalangala Island.

By April 5, 2012uganda safari news

Good news for Kalangala Island, the island has been blessed with another ferry which they will use to transport their goods to and from the island.  This will also made business transaction a lot easier as well movement to and from the island which means travelling to Ssese will be very easy this Easter season because there will be no congestion like it has been before when there was only one ferry to use.

This ferry has been brought by a new industry called the Earthwise (MV Amani) which has been for a long time operating along Port-Bell Mwanza route but hopes to start a new route heading to Kalangala from Port-Bell Luzira come March 6th. This ferry has the ability to accommodate 150 passengers and will be making two routes every day therefore will leave Port-Bell at 8am and reach Kalangala at 12pm which means takes about three hour to reach.

MV Kalangala has been the only one transporting the people and the goods as well and departs from Nakiwoogo at 2pm but currently it has been facing a challenge of too many passengers and goods and most times has had to leave so many of them stranded at the port. This is the reason why the Earthwise decided to come in and assist the situation by introducing their MV Amani to work alongside the MV Kalangala and reduce on the numbers that are left stranded and yet have got to Kalangala more so during this season where the travelers will be very many. They will have two routes too per day and will be leaving Port bell at 8am and leaving the island of Kalangala back to the main land at 2pm so said Tonny Ogullei who is the Head of Marketing.  According the records, there are about 500 people who travel to Kalangala for either business or holiday each day.

Allan Emijeit who is the operations manager of earthwise has got capacity to seat 25 passengers for first class and 125 economy.
