KENYA’S LOCAL TOURISTS INCREASE IN NUMBER DURING THE FESTIVE SEASON.

Despite the fact that the flights in United Kingdom have been cancelled because of the bad weather, Mr.John Cheboi the Head of Public Communication in the Ministry said the tourism in Kenya has increased due to the increase amount of Kenyans living abroad touring the country during the festive season leading to a high occupation of Hotels in many tourist destinations in the country.

He also said that there is need for more finances in the sector so that the tourist destinations can accommodate more locals and international tourists at the same time in the country.

The senior official in the ministry of Tourism said that during this season the number of local tourists has risen to 40% which indicates Kenya’s economy is doing well.

Mr. Jake Grieves Cook the out going chairman of Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) said this tourism increase was recorded in only 2007 and it has happened again in 2010 due to the fact that a peaceful referendum was held in August therefore improving the country’s image.
