By March 7, 2015Kenya safaris

There is a reported increase of poaching in the Maasai Mara area and this has caused a threat to the residents too. Conservationists’ effort to protect the wildlife has so far not been that successful, throught the years, the Kenya Wildlife Service has intervened and tried to stop the poaching, especially in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

Mara North conservancy liaison officer William Sitetu said that if poaching is not stopped, it will destroy Kenya’s economy especially since it highly depends on tourism. William was speaking during a meeting between KWS and the Aitong residents during which they discussed means of cleaning the mess.

Meanwhile Kenya Wildlife Service Nandi warden William Kipsang has encouraged all locals to take a leading role in wildlife conservation. This is because they are the ones that leave close to the parks and can easily stop what the offenders from the market too. He said the locals should be the eyes and ears of the government agencies in this fight.
