Hoteliers at the coast benefit from the Olympics

By August 1, 2012Kenya safaris

The Mombasa and Coast Tourist Association yesterday mentioned that the Hotels at the coast have registered an increase in the number of tourists who are looking for accommodation and most of these are from Britain who are trying to run away from the chaos that is in the country currently as the Olympics games are going on.  They want to stay away from the jam and all the other activities that are caused by the event.

Mohammed Hersi the MCTA chair while addressing in Mombasa that the Olympics games have turned out to be very beneficial to the most of the hotels at the coast as it has influenced a high tourist turn out as visitors have already started come in. this is more than a high season, there are more travelers more so those who feel that they should stay away from the hectic city for a while as the game goes on so he said.

It is good news especially since Business is just resuming following all the threats that Kenya has been facing from the terrorists and many tourists had run away from Kenya more so at the coastal areas. it is clear now that the entire area is as safe as it was before. There were some hotels that had close in South and North Coast, cut off some of the workers to reduce on the costs since they were not getting customers and yet they had to survive but all of them are okay now. Many of these hotels have been and others are being renovated to prepare for the peak season which will be coming in April next year.

But to be specific, everything is going smoothly in the hotel industry and with such bookings several weeks ahead of the setting of the high season, a lot better things are expected, Hersi said. He also said that UK has always been and still is Kenya’s largest market and all countries with Europe produce the highest number of tourists who visit Kenya in a year, it is followed but USA and then the Asian countries.
