During the 2010 festive season, the most terrible snowstorm in 60years hit most parts of Europe and some of the American states therefore seriously affecting the tourism industry of Uganda where the mostly affected people were the tour operators and the airlines. Most of the clients were expected from US transfer to Europe, Africa then Uganda but their flights were cancelled, the buses were trapped in the middle of the snow and the trains couldn’t operate because the tracks were covered by the snow.
The general secretary of the Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO) Mr. Geoffrey Baluku said a number of bookings were cancelled during this period therefore refunds had to be made by some tour operators and a variety of clients lost out since they could not be refunded or change the tour dates because it could be expensive.
The Marketing manager of Brussels Airlines Roger Wamara said many flights were cancelled therefore they had to make various changes for their clients. He added that delays were made because their clients could not travel to or from Brussels though most couldn’t travel to Uganda.
Ethiopian Airlines faced the same problems and the Delta Airlines with other US airlines cancelled around 500 flights on Christmas Day because of the snowstorm that hit the eastern coast of America. The Delta Airlines spokesman Morgant Durrant said 300 flights from and to Atlanta and 200 flights in other cities of America had to be cancelled during this season.
