Ssese is actually an archipelago, composed of about 84 other islands though some of them are not tourist facilities, others are really good tourists destinations like Bukasa, Banda, Bulago, Bugala which is the administrative island among other islands. To get to Ssese, you have to board a ferry together with the safari car to the island and when you arrive, you can drive to your destination, the hotel to have a meal and also freshen up before you can go for the afternoon adventure.
Depart for Ssese Island
Your trip begins with a drive from your hotel to either Kasenyi or Bukakata from where you find the ferry. When you get to the island, you will drive to your accommodation choice which may be a budget facility, a midrange or luxury accommodation facility so that choice is really yours. You will have your lunch meal and you may spend the rest of the day relaxing at the beaches or just take a very peaceful walk along the shores of the lake as you wait for the next days’ activities.
Nature walks and bird watching
All these different islands that make up Ssese are blessed with abundant bird species which means, the bird watchers will definitely have a wonderful time touring the island on this second day. Bird watching is more rewarding when you take an ecological walk in any of the many pristine forests on the islands and you can expect birds like the turacos, among so many others. For those of you on Safari in Uganda, This walk will be a guided walk and so the guide will be able to provide you with the information you may need to know about the birds or the vegetation cover, there will be butterflies and other insects as well. You should be able to return to your hotel to have your lunch and then later may go for a boat ride on Lake Victoria. This boat cruise gives you the chance to see some water animals like the hippos, the crocodiles along the shores as they sun bath, there will also be water birds and other attractions which will make the ride more interesting. Dinner will be served at the hotel. Late in the evening, you can relax from the seats around the bonfire probably with some drinks, the sundowners drinks can be provided for you to take as you watch the sun set.
Visit the conservation education park
After breakfast, you will head to the park and have a closer experience with the animals that are kept in the park. There are both animals and birds. This is a very good experience more so for children who have never encountered wildlife. Later on, you can have your lunch and then board the ferry back to the maintain land. You will be dropped at the airport if you have a flight, otherwise the guide will drive you to your hotel.
There are so many other activities that you can do during your trip to Ssese Island and time is the limit in this case, you can go island hopping, there is the island tour with the help of a local person to see palm oil plantations, lots of different beautiful sceneries, to mention but a few. A trip to Ssese Island will give you the opportunity to have an experience in one of Uganda’s best destinations.
