DEVELOPMENT OF HOTELS BY UWA IN NATIONAL PARKS.

By January 6, 2011Uncategorized

In Uganda, tourist arrivals increase from 15%-20% every year therefore tourism is the country’s second foreign exchange earner. Because of this increase, the UWA Business Development Manager Mr. Stephen Masaba said there is need for more accommodation and recreation facilities for the tourists to stay longer and to make them continue coming.

The association therefore has decided to come and work together with the private sector to increase on the income since all accommodation in the parks are managed by individuals  on an allowance basis and this has affected the income flow.

UWA is to make a business project with capable investors to develop the accommodation facilities in eight selected sites in different national parks such as re-expanding the Katurum Lodge in Kidepo valley national Park, constructing a luxury eco-lodge at the foot of Rwenzori Mountains National Park, building a luxury lodge at the Sempaya Hot Springs in Semuliki National Park having a hot spar using hot water from the hot springs, expanding a luxury lodge in Murchison Falls National Park, building an eco-lodge on Kigarama Hills in Lake Mburo National Park and expanding  a luxury lodge and a mid range lodge to accommodate the luxury and the mid range visitors respectively in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Mr. Masaba said for the above to be done, millions of dollars is needed to be invested for the task.
