A 3 Day Chimpanzee Safari in Ngamba Island

3day-ngamba-chimpanzee-safariOn Ngamba Island located on Lake Victoria is the only and renowned only Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary where orphaned chimpanzees that were rescued from poachers are kept. From here these chimps are usually transferred to the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) as well as to Isinga Island found inside Queen Elizabeth National Park

The Ngamba Island which is among the most loved destinations on a Safari in Uganda was opened in 1998 was picked upon as the ideal habitat for these chimps because it wasn’t inhabited before and also because its vegetation cover that mainly comprises of a rain forest is very similar to the natural habitat of wild chimpanzees. In addition there are over 50 different types of plants on this Island which are known to be consumed by chimpanzees living in their natural habitat. This Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is supported by various organizations such as the Jane Goodall Institute, the Uganda Wildlife Education Center as well as Born Free Foundation.

This chimp sanctuary can be reached by a 45 minutes on a speedboat or by a traditional canoe.

Below is a detailed Itinerary for this amazing tour

Day One: Transfer from Entebbe to Ngamab Island

You will be met by our Safari guide from AA Safaris & Tours Ltd who will brief you about this safari before taking a boat ride to Ngamba Island. Basing on the time you will arrive at the island, you will take a walk to the nearby local communities before going to view the chimpanzees.

Day Two: Take a Forest Walk on the Island

You will have an early breakfast and then set out into the forest for a nature walk. During this walk you will come across the very playful chimpanzees and enjoy a thrilling adventure in their midst. Chimpanzees are man’s closest “cousin” as stated by scientists so you will see them playing around you, hold your hand or even climbing up and hold your hair. You will later have lunch before having an afternoon walk during which you will see various birds and also relax at the shores of Lake Victoria. Dine and spend the night at Ngamba Island Camp

Day Three: Return to Entebbe Mainland

Today morning you will have a delicious breakfast after which you will back up and head back to the mainland – Entebbe by boat.
