The Vervet monkeys with a black face, little white hair but most of its body parts are grey. The male ones have been have got blue scrotum and a red penis unlike all the other species. The vervet monkey is very much active during the day, very social animal therefore like to live in groups of more than 72 monkeys. The monkeys appear to have some sort of relation but seem to be in control compared to the rest of the animals within the group.
When they happen to sport a predator, they will use various sounds to alert the rest of the group for example, should it see a leopard, a snake, or an eagle, they use particular sounds to alert the rest of the members of the group and the noise they make is referred to as the proto-language by a number of ethnologists.
The young ones to have got this intrinsic behavior of to produce that same kind of noise in case they have encountered danger and the adult monkeys do encourage them and sort of train them to make the correct kind of noise for the right cause as they grow up, they constantly repeat the noise and this helps them to perfect the sound. According to research done about these monkeys, the adults do punish the little ones that have failed to master the right sounds for a particular cause and in this case, they behave like humans.
They feed a variety of fruits, figs, leaves, seeds and flowers and some times feeds on the birds’ eggs as well as chicks, insects like the grasshoppers and termites). However, the areas close to people’s homes, they will feed on the bread and all sorts of crops in the gardens more so maize and sweet potatoes.
