TANZANIA SEEK S TO IMPROVE ON SAFARAI TOURISM

Due to the fact that there are several national parks with nature craters, mountains, volcanoes liker the Serengeti national park, this has given Tanzania the opportunity to become the best place to visit if you need to view variety of wild life in the whole world although in the past years people used to prefer visiting countries like Botswana and South Africa. However as time went on, Tanzania became the most peaceful destination and currently the tourism industry earns Tanzania about 10 per cent of its total income.

The improvement in the tourism has enabled the establishment of a number of facilities in Tanzania and according to Joseph a former tour guide, there are radical upgrading done in the infrastructure section and this has caused an impact on his job. He added that they used to use old land-rovers, using a very bad road while going for the tours which is no longer the case since they had part of the road from Junction Makuyuni to Ngorongoro tarmacked and therefore now use just one hour to get to Ngorongoro gate yet they used to take 4 hours.

Rory Egan an Irish together with his with Pamela settled in Tanzania in the early 2000s, together they established a Safari lodge business in Karatu town close Ngorongoro crater.  But those days there were just a few houses along side the road but currently there are so many small clothes shops, internet cafes and accommodation facilities but the safaris are still more comfortable for many especially since having a holiday in Tanzania is expensive for foreigners costing about 150 Euros.

However, it is important for all travelers to know that there is legal hunting of animals in the game reserve and a particular percentage is allowed to be killed in a year but he and Pamela don’t provide such tours because it is a top- end holiday which is no longer take in Kenya since it very expensive therefore a million dollar trip with part of the package involving selected animal like a lion, an elephant or a Zebra. Tours operators who do these tours earn handsomely just like the government that rent out the blocs of land.

Joseph said that as a conservationist, he does not support hunting trip because in the long run we are destroying our own nature because of the need for money however, in terms of development of our nation, we can take on the trips but at minimum level because we always have to secure.
