Kasubi-tombs-reconstructionFor some time now, Kasubi tombs have been under renovation and this project follows the fire that gut the main building in 2009. Kasubi tombs is located just 5 km from Kampala city centre and it is among the highly visited historical sites in Uganda  on a Kampala City Tour, which is why there are a lot of interested parties and well wishers that have come out to help make sure this great site which is also among the UNESCO World Heritage Site is renovated back to its original glory.

The Kasubi tombs -which is a Cultural Tourist Site is the place where four of Buganda’s earlier kings were buried. These include kings like Mutesa I, there is Mutesa II, Kabaka Chwa and Mwanga. Then the other kings were laid to rest in other different places where similar sites were been setup.

There are so many original artifacts that were destroyed by the fire at that time but today, the kingdom has managed to replace most of these art pieces with the help from all parts of the country and the world. There are people that have given up their personal pieces that they had stocked in their collection so hopefully there will be enough material to showcase to the tourists especially after the place reopens to tourists.

we have to appreciate UNESCO who has been the major contributor to this renovation, there are others like international bodies and then the local people who have given very generously towards the project as well as the Uganda government although their financial assistance has turned out to be less than what the tourism sector actually expected since the renovations proved to be very expensive.  At the moment they have the perimeter wall raised which is a new addition structure to the property and it helps to keep the land secure since it is a large piece measuring 63 acre.

According to the reports, the work is going on although at a very slow pace. It was last week that the Buganda kingdom government leader was heard mentioning out the date when they will be completing the Kasubi Tombs renovations and the date is December 2016. Uganda’s tourism industry eager about the new structures setup plus the new materials introduced and hopefully that marketing the Kasubi basing on its looks will make it easier. Tour operators should expect an increase in the people who are interested in visiting the tombs while on their Uganda safaris.

Visiting the Kasubi tombs is an interesting activity; so many tourists would like to have the chance to see what is there if they have enough time to engage in the Kampala city tour.  There are so many people that are waiting eagerly for the reopening of the place. Avisit to the tombs is done during your Kampala city tour and so in additional to the tombs, you also visit the two biggest cathedrals which is the Rubaga for the Catholics and Namirembe for the protestant, there is also the Gadafi museum.

Uganda is one of the best destinations in the world because it has got plenty to offer. You can witness this by visiting any of Uganda’s 10 national parks and so many nature reserves.
