By March 14, 2013Kenya safaris

There are about 21 elephants’ tusks that were confiscated from some poachers by the Mwingi Police together with four bullets. These were got on Friday at the Mwanzele forest which is about 1 kilometer from Mwanzele trading centre.

The poachers were caught during a negotiation of price in this area with the potential buyers. The locals were the ones that called up the Kenya Wildlife Officers who were in the area carrying doing some research so said Simon Birir who is the Mwingi police boss. However, they were interrupted by some gun shorts that were fired just before they about to arrest these offenders and they managed to escape with a few tusks leaving some behind, he added. No one was hurt in the process but damaged the wildlife department car and in they also managed to get four bullets from the poachers.

Barir also said that they have opened up the investigation to catch the criminals and punish them according because every one knows very well that selling wildlife products within and out side the country is so illegal and punishable. Every one has got to restrain from that kind of temptation as it may cost one his freedom.
