Ngamba-Island-floodChimpanzee Tracking Uganda: The latest news coming from Ngamba Island where Uganda’s only Chimpanzee sanctuary is found saddens. This island where Uganda Chimpanzee Tracking is some kind like a refugee camp for these chimpanzees because it is usually the orphans and the abandoned chimpanzees that are taken over there to get a home.  The sanctuary is under the management of chimpanzee sanctuary and wildlife conservation trust (CSWCT) and it gets funding mainly from donors  thus the reason  they are now asking for help from any organization and people willing to help so that they can address the problem of the rising waters from Lake Victoria. It is here that visitors on a Safari in Uganda can enjoy tracking Chimpanzees.

The problem is that this water steadily increasing and started submerging the sanctuary’s properties like the tents as well as other facilities. Any form of assistance rendered towards controlling this water from sweeping away and destroying more property as well as keeping the chimpanzees safe is highly appreciated. The situation is life threatening to the chimpanzees that the older chimpanzees carry the little ones on their backs to save them from getting wet or drowning for instance; Nakku had to carry Sara all through the flooded shores of the lake.

The rising of the water level came as a shock on the 18th of January 2016. The Ngamba community woke up on that day only to find the camp flooded and three of their tents in the sanctuary tented camp were in water and it appeared like they were built in the lake which was upsetting especially when the massive waves constantly hit the very susceptible tent poles.

It is now evident that Ngamba Island tasting the bitter fruits of the recent world wide climatic changes that are affecting different parts of the country and the world. Following the rise of this water, it looks like the effect El Nino rains is biting really hard.  According to the management, if they can’t address this problem as soon as possible, then their properties will be damaged.

All they have retainer wall which was built months ago just before the water increased. This was done with the assistance of the friends of CSWCT together with the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA). It was intended to help prevent the water from reaching the facilities but with this big increase in the water levels, the big waves easily go over the setup wall.  This has caused a state of emergency which is why everyone’s help is appreciated and encourage everyone to give what they have to protect the sanctuary which a great primate Uganda safari destination in Uganda.

The plan is to have the wall re-enforced and also have it go all the way round the entire camp. To have this project completed however, CSWCT will need a sum of USD20, 000 but they can’t come up with this money on their own which is why all well wisher can contact the sanctuary to offer their donations. All the assistance is appreciated in this time of crisis.
