About one million acres has been acquired by Kenya Wildlife Service from both individuals and communities to help in the wildlife conservation program. And according to the director General William Kiprono, the land is conducive for wildlife.

He also said that this has come after spending a period of time seeking to acquire more land and so far this more than one million acres around Kitengela and Amboseli is all they have got.   He has encouraged residents of Swara planes in Nairobi, Amboseli region and in the Northern ranges to donate more land.

Through the Wildlife Management and Conservation Act 2013, the agency has come up with the County Conservation and Compensation committees.

KWS will be supporting the counties so they create more space for conservation and also help in capacity building a well as restocking the areas available. It is very important to work together to improve the sector and this will also be very vital in addressing human-wildlife conflicts so said Kiprono.

KWS has started an education program through which they will teach the communities the Value of wildlife conservation and protection. They need to look at benefits like the schools, hospitals and boreholes sunk for communities which all ways of improving communities, then they can understand and help the government protect wildlife for the good of tourism business.
