Peter Kithunga who is the managing director of Basiva Foundation during his speech yesterday in Kikambala r after his tour around the African Barn Owl cave, he said that the Kenya Tourism Board has got to start promoting its tourism through marketing its historical sites which at the moment are being managed by the local people in the communities and yet would be of great tourists attraction once known to the rest of the world.  He added that the industry should not put more emphasis on the hotels because that is seasonal but rather look at thing are always valuable through the year.

He encouraged the KTB staff to start look at other possibilities more so eco-tourism which will create beautiful scenery to both local and international tourists, it also helps in environment conservation. It is therefore very import for the officials to start operating from small towns rather than sticking to the big towns which are no longer yielding any profits, they should work on the historical sites and create beautiful heritages in the country so said Kithunga. Kenya has got very many nice and rare historical sites which are not in any other country around the world and only need to be marketed and improved to start attracting tourist from allover the world.

The Basiva foundation identifies and preserves historical sites among those are the caves where they used to hide slaves and other exclusive features which were not appreciated before. The leader of the foundation Petro Scharz also mentioned that Kenya has got a lot of tourism potential and what is lucking is complete exploitation of all the resources.   After Scharz’s tour to the Nyari depression which also not well known, he during his speech asked the government to work together with the tourism sector to market these site and through providing the necessary funds form marketing and to the local people so that the area can be fenced to preserve the forest from being destroyed by people who live around it.
