Human encroachment has proven to be a threat to wildlife conservation

Lately, there are over 20,000 livestock that are often seen grazing in the Tsavo West National Park which is in Taita Taveta, something that should not be happening as said by the Kenya Wildlife Service officer. What is unfortunate is the fact that whenever officials, drive the cattle out of the park, the farmers retaliate by massively killing elephants.

According to the hotels records, they appear to be losing business because the tourists are complaining that they see more livestock than wild animals and therefore are choosing not to visit the park so said Willy Mwadilo who is  the chairperson of Kenya Hotel Keepers and Caterers Association in the Tsavo and Amboseli tourism circuit.

According an officer said the owners of the livestock are so influential that it is very difficult to get them and make them pay for this problem.  The Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu said KWS official are letting herders from North Eastern graze their animals in the park, most after bribing the officials.

It is very important that the cattle stay out of the park otherwise they will destroy the beauty of the park once they mix up with the wildlife like the elephants, buffaloes. Tourism is a great source of revenue for Kenya and contributes highly to the national GDP thus the reason all parks should be protected.
