By August 9, 2016Rwanda

Gorillas-in-rwandaRwanda is among the very few countries in the world to see the highly endangered mountain Gorillas. For lovers of nature and wildlife, Gorilla tracking is a activity that should be enjoyed at least once during your lifetime. Imagine meeting the giant mountain gorillas in their natural habitat and staring into their big brown eyes; it’s a very memorable lifetime experience. Today, gorilla trekking is the leading tourism product within Rwanda and also a large contributor to the country’s foreign exchange.

When preparing to visit Rwanda, what crosses most visitors is gorilla tracking? However many always ask themselves ‘What is the best time to take a Rwanda Gorilla Safari?

The answer is very simple: this can be done throughout the year, however to best enjoy this activity were advise that you do gorilla trekking during the dry months from mid-December up to the start of February or in the months of June, July, August and September. During these months the tracks are easier to traverse and the risks of getting malaria are lower. Another advantage of visiting during these dry months is that the gorillas are more active so you will enjoy a more dramatic sight as you watch them explore their natural habitat.

When you track gorillas during the dry months, you will have a more enjoyable experience since the bamboo forest will have less undergrowth and you will easily traverse the forest in search of the gorillas with no fear of the rain falling on you.

Generally, the rainy season in Rwanda starts in late February, March, April and May. We advise tourists planing a gorilla safari in Rwanda to be careful when visit during these months since the forest undergrowth is thick and its very slippery and muddy which makes tracking rather more challenging.
