Akagera national park under serious human threat

A lot of effort has been geared towards the protection and conservation of the Akagera national park however, this is all in vain because currently there is an increase in the rate of number of Despite several interventions geared towards conserving Akagera National Park from human destruction as there are so many people who are intruding on the park area something that is so harmful activities to the park which is the biggest park in the country.

Meanwhile, Jes Grunar who is the Managing Director of the Akagera Park said while talking to Governor Odette Uwamariya in presence of Rica Rwigamba who is in charge of Rwanda Tourism at RDB. This matter came up on Monday during a one-day inspection made by the different officials of a 110 kilometer long electric fence which is being constructed to separate this park from neighboring communities in and effort to erase the human-wildlife conflict.

However, regardless of the fact that there is this fence set up, park authorities say the poachers  as well as the smugglers still carry on with their vices from with in the park. According to Jes Grunar, there is a high increase in the rate of illegal hunting in the last few months. He there said that it is very important that they create a good relationship with all the locals in the communities around the park so that they can easily help in guarding the park in return help them get water for their animals.

People like the Poachers, smugglers, marijuana traffickers, among so many other criminals have become a serious problem to this park, therefore, there should be serious training of  about 42 game rangers to patrol around the  borders and capture such people. Odette Uwamariya the Governor of the Province, then warned all the intruders that they will be punished by the laws that have been setup should any of them be caught.
