2011 A FRUITFUL YEAR FOR KENYA’S TOURISM SECTOR.

By February 16, 2012Kenya

According to the reports from the Kenya’s tourism sector, it indicates that the industry’s revenues greatly increased by about 32% to up to98 billion shillings which is about $1.18 billion in the year 2011. This improvement is attributed to an increase in the number of tourists who came from several other fresh markets and to this; Najib Balala who is the Kenyan tourism minister cautioned that the on going euro zone predicament might hold back further improvement this year.

The number of tourists who entered Kenya increased by 15.4% and they reached 1.26 million and was just about to reach the country’s target which was 1.3 million visitors in 2011. This therefore means that the they were not able to receive the targeted revenue and it was less by 100 billion shilling.

Balala while addressing the press, he said that he expect any further improvement this year because of the economic catastrophe that has swept across different countries, therefore the  growth in 2012 is not expected to be tremendous as in 2011.
