The QUANTITY of mountain gorilla permits has increased in Uganda making them available each day in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, whilst the gorilla permit PRICE stays the same.
Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has been overwhelmed with permit requests as a result of significantly increasing tourism to Uganda during the year of 2018, so the completion of the habituation of the Katwe group (in Buhoma) and the Christmas group (in Nkuringo) couldn’t have come at a better time. Now Tourists are able to trek to see both of these, increasing the total to 17 groups.
International tour operators are have been reminded to follow agreed procedures by making bookings well in advance through the official channels, rather than rely on last-minute cash purchase which is strongly discouraged and often leaves visitors disappointed by lack of permits.
The addition of the Christmas and Katwe groups allows up to 3,000 people extra per year to enjoy one of world’s most amazing wildlife experiences. In our opinion, Uganda Wildlife Authority has yet again impressed in both habituating additional families and also maintained the permit fee.
