Air Traffic to be Interrupted as Kenya Celebrates its Independence Day

By December 8, 2016Kenya safaris

kenya-civil-aviation-authorityThe temporary closing of the air-space surrounding the Jomo Kenyatta International airport the main airport of Kenya yesterday caused a disruption of air traffic for five hours of closure yesterday as Kenya’s air-force was training for its aerial displays as well as the flyby maneuvers in preparation for the 12th of December when the country will be celebrating its independence day.

According to the information we have received, it shows that Wilson Airport is going to be closed as early as 09.00 hours (a.m.) to about 14.00 hours (pm), and the all the departures heading into the national parks across the country will be thrown into some confusion.

All the different Air operators having scheduled flights coming from Wilson Airport to the destinations upcountry, including the national parks and the coastal areas are currently rushing to inform their clients who were booked for 12th December 2016 of the changed timings as majority of the departures are going to be pulled back early morning to before 9:00 a.m – which may see problematic at somehow considering the fact that operations at Wilson Airport start at 07.00 hours.

Similarly the return flights heading into Wilson will be affected and spectators predict that this closure is likely to cause major commotions for the services scheduled that afternoon  with aircraft landing in late, (after 14.00 hours) thus delaying or even canceling a number of the afternoon departures.

A number of airlines have decided to take the more costly alternative and fly into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport however the initial feedback from the passengers reveals that many of them are not happy with idea of being compelled to use Kenya’s main airport putting into consideration that the traffic jam on the road heading and leaving the airport is very heavy and also the difficulty of going through the numerous security checkpoints.

Then there are passengers who left their cars parked at Wilson Airport yet they are returning into Kenya on 12th will have to make extra transport arrangements in case they land at the Jomo Kenyatta Airport instead of the initially planned Wilson Airport.
