The government increased on the ministry of tourism funds.

By May 7, 2012Uganda tourism news

According to the information that has been go from analysts, there will be an increase in the amount of resources that the government allocates to the tourism industry and this time the amount that will be give to the industry in the 2012/2013 budget will be just equivalent to the amount that the government gets from the industry as revenue since the industry contributes over 20% to the GDP. This is probably the best time that the government has got to show its commitment to the industry while there are so many global publications and organizations that are looking at Uganda as one off the best tourism destinations with a lot of tourism potential.

Uganda’s very first acknowledgment was from Lonely Planet which is a leading online tourism publication that named Uganda as the must visit place in 2012. The 2012/2013 national budget that has been approved indicates that the funds allocated to the entire tourism, trade and industry will be increasing by 0.1% that is from sh53.1b to sh65.1b. However, according to the sources, this money make no reach the tourism sector and therefore not lead to tourism development and  yet this has been the area of major concern to the major stakeholders and observers. Uganda Tourism Board (UTB)’s Cuthbert Baguma  said that UTB will have to operate with the limited funds that it may get from this budget because the budget is not likely to change any time soon because at least there are no indications of such a thing happening which is why  we have to thinking hard so said Baguma.

The 2012/2013 national budget framework has identified infrastructure development as one of the main important aspects that have got to be handled to improve on the tourism products. This is something that the Government has always encouraged because infrastructure projects like the road network is one way of funding tourism because good roads attract tourists to visit such places like the high spending travelers especially from Europe and the Americas. This is the trick that Kenya, Tanzania and of recent Rwanda has started using to attract more tourists.
