Kenya’s tourism sector lacks enough exposure.
It is very much disappointing how little is known about Kenya despite the fact that it has been in the limelight for quite sometime now. Kenya has been up to standards in terms of the Athletics games along side other avenues that have been used to display Kenya as one of the countries which have lots of opportunities that are suitable for the holiday makers as well as the investors. The Kenya Tourists Board played a very important role in marketing the tourists’ attractions although there have been some bad situations; the country still welcomes all interests from all parts of the world.
There are some people who actually think that there are lions and cheetahs wondering about in people’s homes and around the estates or homesteads. Currently, there are so many human-wildlife conflicts even as close as to the city which means that actually people get to mingle with the big cats more often. Something that the people out of Kenya do not know is that it is actually not unfounded to see that meanwhile others think that lions or leopards are kept as pets in the house some thing that is rather insulting to the Kenyans because these are all wild animals which have to be very careful when they appear.
This is some of the simple information which all tourists should know about any good tourist destination and it is therefore embarrassing that such basics information about the wildlife, where they live and how society relate with them is not known. Kenya’s Amboseli is among the few areas in the whole world where you can have an opportunity to see large numbers of elephants moving around in a herd of about 100 elephants at the same time. And because they are so many and they feed from the area, they are now used to tourists and lodges within the park. At one such lodge, the Oltukai, the elephants can even come so close to the lodge and some one can actually touch them while on the other side of the electric fence.
The elephants are aware of the electric power and will never get close to the fence but will eat close so the tourists have a chance to see them and take their pictures at a close ranger if they do not care about having the fence appear in their photos. For example there is a Chinese photographer who wanted to take a nice picture of large jumbo’s eye lashes who was enjoying the attention of tourists who had just come to the lodge on that day. It is so bad that the country’s potential clients learn lack the information they need to about the different attractions and this makes the industry lag behind.
